Choosing the Right School for Your Child

A Free Guide for Cleveland Families

Finding the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. Our School Choice Guide helps you know what to look for during school tours and how to evaluate whether a school is the right fit for your family.

What’s Inside the Guide

When you tour schools, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by what to look for and what questions to ask. This guide breaks it down into clear categories so you can make an informed decision with confidence.
Inside, you’ll find guidance on evaluating:

Emotional and Physical Safety

Is the school environment calm, welcoming, and supportive? Do students and families feel safe and respected?

Culture and Engagement

Are teachers and staff welcoming? Do you see evidence of student engagement, meaningful activities, and positive relationships?

Academics and Curriculum

Does the curriculum go beyond test preparation to support whole-child development? Are students actively engaged in learning?

Plus: A checklist to use during school tours and questions to ask school staff.

Sports, Clubs & After School

Beyond the school day, students at the Intergenerational Schools have opportunities to explore their interests, build new skills, and connect with peers through a variety of after-school clubs and activities. These programs are led by teachers, parent volunteers, and community partners, and they change throughout the year based on student interest and available resources.

From creative arts and storytelling to cooking, gardening, journalism, and theater, clubs offer students a chance to discover what excites them in a supportive, multi-age environment. Recent clubs have included crochet, upcycling, health leadership, Girl Scouts, theater in partnership with Playhouse Square, cooking through Food Strong, and student journalism. Each campus offers different programs each quarter, so check Bloomz for current offerings and sign-up information.
